Rainbow effects on a cheer

The goal

When someone cheers 100 bits or more, VTube Studio's visual effects switch to your rainbow preset for 20 seconds, then fade back to exactly how they were. For 1000 bits or more, CroStream rolls the dice instead: a random mix of effects. More cheers while it's on keep it going.

Time: about 10 minutes. Level: intermediate (uses an If step).

What you need

  • CroStream connected to VTube Studio and logged in to Twitch. Your channel can receive bits (Affiliate or Partner).
  • An effects preset saved in VTube Studio's VFX settings. This recipe calls it Rainbow; use any preset you like.

Windows and macOS

VTube Studio's visual effects (post-processing) are available in VTube Studio on Windows and macOS.

Step 1: Build the macro

  1. Click Macros, then New macro. Set Name to Cheer effects.
  2. Filter the palette for if and click If (under Tools). Click Choose what to check…, choose {bits}, then ≥, and type 1000.
  3. Under Then, add Set VTube Studio's effects (filter for effects):

    Setting Value Why
Mode randomize A random mix of effects.
Chaos 0.6 From 0 (mild) to 1 (complete chaos).
Put back after 20s Everything returns to how it was.
  4. Click Else below the branches. Under Else, add a second Set VTube Studio's effects:

    Setting Value
    Mode preset
    Preset Rainbow
    Fade (seconds) 1
    Put back after 20s
  5. Click Save.

Step 2: Add the trigger

  1. Click Triggers, then New trigger. Set Name to Cheer effects.
  2. Under When, pick Cheer or power-up. Set Kind to cheer and Minimum bits to 100.
  3. Under Then run, pick Cheer effects, then click Save.

Check it works

  1. Click Test on the trigger. A test cheer uses your Minimum bits, 100, so the rainbow preset fades in. The VTube Studio page's Model card shows Effects: On · Rainbow.
  2. After 20 seconds the effects fade back to what they were before.
  3. To try the dice, set Minimum bits to 1000, save, test, then set it back to 100.

Variables used

Variable Becomes
{bits} How many bits were cheered.
{effects_preset} Output of the effects step: the active preset's name, empty when none is.

Make it yours

  • One effect, not a preset. Use Turn a visual effect on or off instead and pick an effect from the list, such as rain or bloom, with a Strength and For how long.
  • Bigger cheers, longer party. Click Else if for a middle tier, such as {bits} ≥ 500 with the same preset and Put back after 45s. CroStream runs the first branch that matches, so keep the biggest amount at the top.
  • Tint along. Add Tint the model with Tint the whole model on, a color, and Remove the tint after 20s. VTube Studio can only darken, so white means no tint.

Troubleshooting

What you see What to do
No such effects preset. The preset's name doesn't match one saved in VTube Studio. Pick it from the list with VTube Studio connected.
Part of the preset is missing The preset uses one of VTube Studio's restricted effects, which VTube Studio leaves off unless you allow them. Allow restricted effects in VTube Studio's VFX settings, then turn on Restricted effects in the step.
The effects never go back The connection dropped before the 20 seconds were up and didn't come back within about 10 minutes. Load your usual preset in VTube Studio, or click Reset everything CroStream changed in the Model card.

Every setting of the step: Set VTube Studio's effects. More fixes in Troubleshooting.
