A sound from your rigger's animation¶
The goal¶
Your model has a stomp animation. Your rigger placed a custom animation
event called stomp at the frame where the foot hits the ground. Every
time that animation plays, whether from a VTube Studio hotkey, a channel
point reward or an idle loop, CroStream plays a thud at exactly that
moment.
Time: about 10 minutes. Level: intermediate.
What you need¶
- CroStream connected to VTube Studio, with your model loaded.
- An animation with a custom event in it. Riggers add these in the
Live2D Cubism Animation Editor (right-click the timeline, Add Event,
and type a text, here
stomp), and must turn on Export Event when exporting the animation. If you didn't rig the model yourself, ask your rigger which events your animations have. - A sound file (WAV, MP3, OGG or FLAC) on this computer, such as
C:\Sounds\thud.wav.
Step 1: Build the macro¶
- Click Macros, then New macro. Set Name to
Stomp sound. - Filter the palette for
soundand click Play a sound (under Tools). - Set Sound file to the full path of your sound, such as
C:\Sounds\thud.wav, and Volume (1-100) to80. - Click Save.
Step 2: Add the trigger¶
- Click Triggers, then New trigger. Set Name to
Stomp. -
Under When, pick An animation event happens (under VTube Studio) and set:
Option Value Why Event customThe rigger's event, not the start or end of the animation. Animation your stomp animation Only this animation. Leave empty for any. Event text stompExactly the text your rigger typed. Leave empty for every custom event. Include idle animations Off Turn on if the event is in an idle animation. -
Under Then run, pick Stomp sound, then click Save.
Check it works¶
- In VTube Studio, play the stomp animation (with its hotkey, for example). The thud plays as the foot lands.
- Nothing? Open Activity: if the trigger fired, the run is there. If it isn't, check the Event text against the rigger's text, letter for letter.
Find out what events an animation has
Make a temporary trigger with Event custom, Animation and
Event text empty, running a macro with a single Send chat
message step: {animation_name}: {animation_data}. Play your
animations, and the event texts appear in chat. Delete it afterward.
Variables used¶
| Variable | Becomes |
|---|---|
{animation_name} |
The animation's file name, such as stomp.motion3.json. |
{animation_data} |
The event's text, here stomp. |
{animation_event} |
start, end or custom. |
{animation_time} |
When in the animation the event is, in seconds. |
Make it yours¶
- Start it from chat. Make a
!stompcommand whose macro runs Trigger a VTube Studio hotkey with the stomp animation's hotkey. The animation plays, reaches the event, and this trigger plays the sound, perfectly in time. - Shake the model. Add a Physics gust or a quick Move, turn or resize the model to the macro for a stomp that rattles your model.
- A sound on every animation. Set Event to
start, leave Animation empty, and play a whoosh whenever any animation begins.
Troubleshooting¶
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| The trigger never fires | The Event text must match exactly. Check the animation was exported with Export Event turned on. For an idle animation, turn on Include idle animations. |
| It fires on every loop | It's in an idle animation, which loops. That's expected; use a one-time animation instead. |
| The sound is late | Check the sound file for silence at its start, and trim it. |
| No sound | Check Output device in the Play a sound step (empty means your system default) and the Volume. |
